On Tuesday 7th July 2026, the Clerk and Chair of Brington Parish Council met with Councillor Butler, Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport at West Northamptonshire Council, to discuss several ongoing highways concerns affecting our community.
We visited the road by the Church in Great Brington , where Councillor Butler was already aware of the issues. However, upon seeing the condition firsthand, he acknowledged that the situation is more severe than anticipated. He has committed to arranging for a surveyor to revisit the site. While this is a positive step forward, residents should be aware that this is not a quick fix. West Northamptonshire Council will need time to assess and plan a long-term solution rather than implementing a temporary repair.
The Parish Council will continue to work closely with Councillor Butler and Highways to ensure progress is made.
In addition, Councillor Butler was shown the wider damage to roads throughout the Parish particularly Port Road to Upper Harlestone and Flore Road, caused by increased traffic and heavy goods vehicles (HGVs). We travelled along Roman Road to highlight the impact of the ongoing long-term road closure. We spent time at the road closure and it was clear little work was taking place. Councillor Butler has agreed to bring colleagues from the Highways team to review the situation on-site and consider what further action can be taken with a hope things may speed up
Residents are kindly reminded to continue reporting potholes and road defects via the West Northamptonshire Council website, as this helps prioritise repairs and provides essential data to support our case.
Councillor Butler has also confirmed that he will attend a future Parish Council meeting once further information and updates are available.
Brington Parish Council remains committed to working with West Northamptonshire Council to address these issues and will keep residents informed as matters progress.
We thank Cllr Butler for visiting giving three hours of his time and we hope that this is a positive step forward.
